Mother Nature Doesn't Exist,

But Nature's Creator and Master Does

The earth is the LORD’S and the fullness thereof;

the world, and they that dwell therein;

For he hath founded it upon the seas,

and established it upon the floods.

(Psalms 24:1:2

As I sit writing this message, through the slightly cracked windows, I hear the heavenly music of a gentle rain and wind.  It’s a beautiful sound that only God could create. But sadly there is a dark side also to these elements. The rain and wind are remnants from Hurricane Katrina which has caused heartbreaking devastation, and loss of life in several southern states.  Over and over, while speaking about this hurricane, newscasters mistakenly refer to “Mother Nature” as the power that has wrecked so much havoc.  Through this reference they lead you to envision Mother Nature as a person or phenomenon out there somewhere who is working and has all this incredible power.  This is a lie.  There is no Mother Nature.  There is only God who CREATED nature.  As such GOD is the power behind nature and only He can control it. GOD, not mother nature is the all powerful, all mighty, Creator of the heaven and earth and all that is in it.  All authority is His to do with it whatsoever he pleaseth.

To hear “Mother Nature” given credit for storms such as hurricane Katrina, is an insult to God.  For this not only ignores and denies  the existence, reality, and power of God, it gives the honor and glory to something that does not exist.  Weather forecasters lead us to believe that all of earth is at the mercy of a force that does not exist.  We are indeed at the mercy of a power.  But it isn’t Mother Nature. We are at the mercy of God. It is God who calms the seas just by the sound of all powerful voice.  In the book of Matthew we read where the disciples were on a ship with Jesus.  While THE COMMANDER OF THE SEAS slept peacefully, there arose a great storm.  The disciples (who knew how powerless they were and how powerful Jesus is) were very frightened, and went to awaken Jesus.  Feeling somewhat abandoned perhaps they ask Jesus, Master, carest thou not that we perish?  And he arose and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still.  And the wind ceased, and there was great calm. (Mark 4:39)  The disciples were amazed at what Jesus did.  But the men marvelled, saying, what manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him! (Matthew 8:27)

All through the Bible we read example after example of how God has often used nature as a tool to do his will and accomplish his purpose.  For people and for nations.  From the flood in Genesis that destroyed the earth, to the coming heart stopping wrath described vividly in Revelation, we see clearly and undeniably a clear picture of God’s power displayed through nature.  Storms, Hurricanes, Tornados, Earthquakes, Tusamias, always show me the Almighty hand of God at work in our world.  And my soul cries out,

O my God, O my God, How Great Thou Art!

The world today is so far away from God.  It cannot see the very truth that is before their very eyes.  The devil has deceived the wisest of man.  They believe in lies such as the power of Mother Nature.  O how I wish with all my heart I could remove the blinders, and help them to see that their blindness is going to destroy them the same way it did when God unleashed the first flood upon the earth.  But the next time will not be by water but by fire.  Oh that people would turn to God and give Him the honor and glory He alone deserves, instead of bestowing it upon some false god.

Truly it is only by the grace and mercy of God that the earth, and we as a people are not completely overcome and wiped out by more devastating hurricanes, earthquakes, and such.  Surely we foolish, foolish people must sorely try and grieve the heart of God.  Only a loving and long suffering God could show such mercy, and hold back the anger and wrath that must fill his heart as He looks upon our foolishness, and denial of Him.  But God while loving and merciful, is also a judge.  He hates wickedness.  In His holy word we read that when God was pleased with a people or a nation he would bless them.  One of the ways he would do this, he would cause the rain to fall upon their land and their crops to flourish.  At the same time when God was displeased, he would withhold the rain so their land would dry up and everything growing would die.

Today America is turning its back on God.  Disgracing His holy name.  Disgracing its Christian heritage. Discounting the multitude of blessings He has bestowed upon it because it WAS a Christian nation.

God can’t be pleased with us. Maybe hurricanes like Katrina and other painful events that have happened recently is God’s attempt to get our attention, so that we might draw near to him, and forsake our foolish ways, and beliefs.  If so, we should listen and take heed.

As I close this message, the rain has quieted to a whisper.  But the wind has grown louder.  As I peak out the window I see tree limbs dancing a spirited waltz. In the distance I hear the faint, cheerful chirping of an unworried bird.  And in the storm I see, and in my heart I know, and have the peace, that my God is still on the throne, and O how great He is!
